 Dr. James Cecil Jones, Jr.

Jim was born on November 6, 1933, in Williamson, WV.  He passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.  He was preceded in death by his parents Rev. J. Cecil Jones and Lucille Swann Jones and sister Elsie L. Jones.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janice (Jan) Williams Jones of sixty years, son, John David Jones, and daughter, Julie Lynn Jones all of Jackson, TN, his brother, Robert H. Jones (Peggy) of Dunn, NC, his sister, Betty Ann Manly (Don) of Bradenton, FL, his sister-in-law, Tharon Scott, of Newport News, VA, ten nieces and nephews, and twenty great nieces and nephews.

Jim was ordained into the ministry at the age of 16.  He received his BA Degree from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN, and his Masters of Divinity and PhD from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.  He served as pastor of Audubon Baptist Church in Louisville, KY, and Antioch Baptist Church in Henderson, TN, and as Interim Pastor of First Baptist Church in Ridgeley, TN, Cottage Grove Baptist Church in Cottage Grove, TN, and, most recently, of First Presbyterian Church in Selmer, TN.  He also was an Associate Professor of Religion at Union University, 1979-1987.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, TN.  Preceding the private burial, the family will receive friends from 1–2 p.m. in Memorial Hall on the grounds of First Presbyterian Church.  A private burial will take place at 11 a.m. at Ridgecrest Cemetery.
