Frieda Wilcox Deaton passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday October 12, 2017. She was a native of Jackson, TN and was born on February 21, 1933 to the late Cleta and Bob Wilcox.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jimmy Deaton, son Ricky Deaton, and sisters Bitsy (Elsie Trost) and Baby Sister (Cleta Waddell). The three sisters were known as the Wilcox Trio in their younger years.

Her survivors include her brother Bobby Wilcox III of Atlanta; children: Loret Evans, Vicki Deaton, and David Deaton (Charity), grandchildren: Dylan Evans, Jim Evans (Carol Ann), Katie Reynolds (Don), Bonnie Deaton, Pearce Deaton (Amanda), Spence Deaton, Alison Deaton, Will Deaton (Lisa), Collin Long, Cristen Long, and Cadye Long; great grandchildren: Jace, Carter, August, Conley, Max, Russell, and Cash; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Frieda excelled in basketball as she received her high school diploma at Jackson High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Union University where she was a Chi Omega and her Master’s Degree from the University of Memphis. Frieda taught physical education at Jackson Junior High for 26 years where she was noted for her outstanding girl’s track teams.

A very vital part of her life was belonging to Malesus Methodist Church where she was an active choir member for 57 years. She always said there was a special bond among the choir members because of the devotion they showed as they lifted their voices to the Lord. She was very proud of her daughter Loret’s involvement and beautiful music as the church organist.

The Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, October 19th at 2 pm at Malesus Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors from 1-2. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to Malesus Methodist Church.
