Charlie Flynt, age 76, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Maplewood Healthcare Center in Jackson.
He was born on July 21, 1947 in Gulfport, Mississippi to the late Thomas C. Flynt and Rufine Scarborough Flynt. Charlie served in the Navy as a young man and earned his GED, Bachelor's, Master's and PhD in Social Sciences. He mentored and supported adolescents in a girl's home and advised many students over his years as a college professor. Charlie was an educator, an advocate and an activist for everyone he met. He deeply loved his wife Ann and his family. He was a philosopher, a scholar and a fisherman through and through.He got his family through two hurricanes and was as tough as nails, never giving up. Charlie was never far from the dance floor as a young man and to the very end he loved to listen to Johnny Rivers and Journey. He loved to share his catch when he went fishing. Charlie was a huge Saints and Steelers football fan.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Michael Flynt and brother, John Wayne Scarborough.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Ann Flynt of Jackson, Tennessee; two daughters, Rachael Clark and husband Justin and Madeline Flynt both of Jackson, Tennessee; sister, Juanita Flynt Cuevas and husband Rick of Gilbert, Arizona; and two grandchildren, Ruby Jane Clark and Jeremiah Corthell Clark.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Jackson, Tennessee.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Gentiva Hospice, Maplewood Healthcare and his long-term physician and friend, Dr. Stephen Collier for their care and support of Charlie as he transitioned from this life.
