Jerry Lynn Childress, age 76 of Jackson, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at his home.
He was born on November 13, 1946 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Sidney and Addie Childress. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Doyle Childress of Memphis.
Jerry achieved Eagle Scout Status and went on to the Army Reserves, as a medic, for six years during the Vietnam War era. He was a pharmaceutical sales rep for twenty years and then a real estate agent. He had a gift for writing poetry that he loved to share and enjoyed being Papa to his grandchildren. Jerry’s true passion was always helping others and sharing the love of Christ. He enjoyed worship and fellowship at the Hope Center in Jackson, Tennessee. One of his favorite things to do was brighten people’s day by telling them jokes.
Jerry is survived by his wife of fifty golden years, Judy Childress; children, Jay Childress and Cindy Byrd and her husband Craig; and grandchildren, Camille Childress, Carter Childress, Caden Byrd and Dalton Byrd.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Eddie Jean Childress and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Hope Recovery Church in Medon, Tennessee with fellowship to follow.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour at the church on Saturday.
