Carolyn Flowers

May 4, 1945 — July 3, 2021

Humboldt

Mrs. Carolyn Flowers, age 76, passed away on July 3, 2021, in Humboldt, Tennessee. Carolyn was born on May 4th, 1945, in Welch, West Virginia, where she enjoyed playing on the “slicky” rocks in the fresh springs and pools of the mountains where she grew up.

Carolyn’s mother, Gladys Cline, passed away when she was only 14 years old. Soon thereafter, she left West Virginia for a better life in Chicago, Illinois. She rode the Greyhound bus accompanied by her cousin and with money she was gifted from a friend. In Chicago, she gained employment by lying about her age (she said she was 18!) and began a job she loved at Thompson Design in Franklin Park. She was proud of her work and happy for her new life having met her husband, Howard, who moved to Chicago from West Tennessee. The two of them began an amazing and eventful life together riding motorcycles, doing the two step, and hosting friends and family for so many occassions. Carolyn became Howard’s bookeeeper during their marriage, whether it was for the moving company they owned or the family farm. Carolyn had many hobbies but her love above all was gardening. So much so, that if Carolyn came to your house for a visit, she would undoubtedly end up in your flower beds pulling weeds. She also loved her home, always decorating, rearranging, and even making bows for mailboxes in the community. Carolyn is known and famous for her pies, especially chocolate.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Flowers is precedeed in life by her husband Howard Flowers, her father Virgil Cline, and her sister Barabra “Ada” Hatfield. Mrs. Flowers is survived by three daughters, Cheryl Sanford of Three Way, Katrina Payne (Preston) of Three Way and Cynthia Labenski (Edward) of Boise, Idaho. Mrs. Flowers is survived by two grandchildren, Ethan Howard Sanford and Beatrice Anne Labenski. They were the light of her life and made her proud to be called Nannie.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 9, 2021 at Obion County Memorial Gardens.
