Elinor Brown

November 27, 1927 — December 1, 2016

Elinor Jean (Cook) Brown was born at Asbury Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. as the youngest of three daughters of Cecil and Orren Cook on November 27, 1927.  She passed away to the serenity of Heaven, after suffering the many perils of Alzheimer's Disease for many years, on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at the age of 89.

After graduating from high school in Minneapolis she moved to California, where in 1952, she met a young Naval Officer, James Lawrence “Larry” Brown. They were married on April 25, 1953. Together they raised 4 children: Kevin, Brian, Jaimie, and Christopher.

Elinor enjoyed the luxury of raising her children as a stay at home mom. She was an avid arts and crafts person making countless articles of home decor.  In her latter years her passion was quilting and there’s no telling how many quilts she made in her lifetime.  For many years she was a member of the Heart Warmers quilting group at St. Mary’s Catholic Church until Alzheimer's robbed her of her ability to sew and do all her other creative hobbies.  She was a long time active parishioner of        St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her lifetime husband in 1990, and her sister Marjorie Jones.  She is survived by her sister Bonnie Bertel, Winona, MN.  She leaves behind to cherish many memories by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Her Children: Kevin and his wife, Linda Valdes-Brown, her longtime caregiver at their home in Jackson, TN; Jaimie (Michael) of Elgin, TX; and Brian and Christopher who preceded her in death in 1983. Elinor’s 7 Grandchildren: Christina Hicks, Catherine “Katie” Hicks (Ryan Beveridge), Robin Hicks, Nicholas (Crystal) DiChiara, Christopher (Jamie) DiChiara, Johnathon (Janice) DiChiara, and Benjamin (Monique) DiChiara. Elinor's 9 Great-Grandchildren: Maddox, Gunner, Ace, Courtney, Payne, Gannon, Niko, Gage, and Jace.

Please join her family in celebrating her life into death on Wednesday December 7th at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Visitation will be at 9:15 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.  The Rosary will be prayed for the repose of Elinor's soul at 10:00 a.m.  The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend David Graham and Monsignor Thomas Kirk officiating.  Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery at 419 Hardee St. in Jackson. Following interment there will be a luncheon at St. Mary's Holy Family Hall.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and caregivers at Elmcroft Heartland Memory Care and Bells Nursing Home for their kindness and help in caring for Elinor during the last 4 months of her life.

Please, in lieu of flowers the family wishes that contributions be considered in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
